Determined not to get caught in gridlock on the dreaded A303 while dropping Mum back home, we agreed to hit the road at 7:00 AM.
Even at that hour, tourists were already pouring into Stonehenge as we passed. Whichever architect decided to build those stones right next to the A303 certainly knew how to draw a crowd.
While we were eating breakfast, I’m convinced Mum sneaked off to consult her feared ‘Pink Book’ of jobs to find at least one task for me. Her request? Changing a bathroom light bulb. Phew—I got off lightly today (pun fully intended).
I did feel a slight pang of guilt leaving Karen back at home to manage the early morning chaos on her own. Her schedule included clearing Mum’s room before the carpet fitters arrived at 8:00 AM, welcoming Ludo when he was dropped off around the same time, feeding our dogs, and tackling all the usual morning routine. She had a proper shift ahead of her.
By the time I returned, the early morning mayhem had completely subsided. The carpets were down, Ludo and our dogs were basking lazily in the sun, and Karen was calmly catching up on admin. Everything was completely under control.
Over the weekend, my inbox and task list had filled up faster than the Stonehenge car park. With the morning run done, I was actually looking forward to a solid admin day, followed by table tennis in the evening.
