I thought an early morning walk with the dogs on “Scary Bin Day” was a stroke of tactical genius. The goal was to ensure Moog completely missed the recycling lorry—the mere sight of which frightens him so intensely that he spends the rest of the morning physically shaking. My plan technically worked; we did indeed miss the lorry, but only because the bin men failed to turn up at all today!

To add to the frustration, I have somehow picked up a cold from somewhere. As the day drew on, my voice grew increasingly gravelly, my head felt thicker, my eyes became sore, and the last of my energy rapidly drained away. It seems I am officially booked in for a few days of coughing, sneezing, and generally feeling rough.

Nevertheless, I pushed on with the day’s tasks, doing my level best to ignore the fact that the bug was gradually staging a full hostile takeover of my body. I fought back with a steady rotation of Paracetamol, Lemsip, hot drinks, and proper food, which offered a bit of temporary relief.

So, while the rest of the UK supposedly entered its third media-driven heatwave, I was busy enduring a private heatwave of my very own as my system fiercely fought off the bug.

Riding out heatwave 3.0.
