List five things you do for fun.

Spending time with our grandson. He energetically bounces around full of enthusiasm to learn. He comes out with the most unusual and hilarious quotes. We were recently playing one of his games and when we correctly matched two cards he said ‘absolutely right’ !! He’s three next week!

Spending time with our dogs is another fun activity – except for when they have a burst of energy at 8pm in the evening when we want to watch TV. They’re having fun, we don’t find it fun.

Dog’s internal clocks are amazing. How do they know 7am is breakfast time, 5pm is tea time, 8pm is fidget around and annoy the humans time! NOTE there is no walk time, we purposely mix that up to prevent another learned behaviour.

Spending time outside in nature with the dogs (obviously at no particular time of day) is another fun activity I enjoy. In the UK everyday is different.

One day we get drenched, another day we get damp, another day we think it’s going to be dry and we get caught without our waterproofs. Everyday is (wet) fun. Seriously, we get a lot of glorious weather too. Not too hot, not too cold and we get four seasons (sometimes in the same day!) which I would miss.

Playing table tennis is also up there in the top 5 fun things I do. I have a lot of fun at the two clubs I go to. No getting wet with this sport, apart from perspiration from chasing a small, light, cellulose ball around a table. Trying to get your footwork right, hold the racket correctly, watch the ball, watch the opponent, think about where you want the ball to go – it rarely goes there – Oh what fun!

And number 5 is those days when you’ve got nothing planned and everything just works out. You potter around doing a bit of this, a bit of that—maybe finally sort out that drawer full of random stuff, or decide on a whim to meet a friend. No agenda, no pressure, just seeing where the day takes you.

These are the days when even minor annoyances don’t really bother you. Rain shower? Whatever, you’ve got a jacket somewhere. Dogs demanding attention at an inconvenient moment? Sure, why not. It’s that feeling when you get to the end of the day and think “yeah, that was a good day” without being able to pinpoint exactly why.

Although obviously the fun stops when I realise I’ve just spent two hours rearranging the garage and now need to explain to Karen why her car no longer fits in!
