In my last post I wrote about making gut-instinct decisions which I’ve found to be much better ones than those I over-think (a natural instinct of mine).

There’s a lot of scientific research that delves into why these decisions are often better ones than those we ponder over. There’s a mass of nerves in our stomachs that connect directly to the brain (no surprises there) however, recent research has shown that some of these nerves connect directly to the decision making part of the brain.

So gut-instinct really is a thing!

Recently Karen and I went away for a couple of days to visit friends. There were a few things on our minds so we used the time in the car to discuss them.

These weren’t big life-changing topics, more like the decisions we need to make in the next 3 months.

Being in a different environment – the car or at our friends house – took all the usual distractions away and we quickly and confidently made our decisions right then. No over-thinking or long discussions, no ‘let’s sleep on it for 24 hours’ just gut-instinct decisions made on the spot because they felt right.

I’m 100% sure the decisions we took then were the right ones and we are both comfortable with them.

So we’re not getting the bargain priced new kitchen; we are selling one of the cars and I am going to do more volunteering.

DONE with gut-feeling.

So my advice, if you’re unable to make a decision after giving the topic some thought, step away, change your environment – go for a walk, go for drive, go to a coffee shop – and go with your gut. It’ll be your best decision and one you won’t regret.
