I’ve taken up playing table tennis again since moving back to Pewsey. I played when I was younger and from what I remember even competed in a few tournaments. I was one of those kids who played many different sports including football, tennis, squash, table tennis, canoeing and I was okay at all of them – not great, never the best, just okay. I made the school teams and enjoyed competiting, however it wasn’t until I took up dog agility in my late 20’s that I found a sport that I excelled at – Dog Agility.
Playing table tennis again has been fun and interesting to discover other people at the club got into the sport the same way as I did: played when younger, grew up, got married, had families, got jobs, got busy lives, families grew up and left home, had more time, took up TT again…
Writing that journey down seems very pre-determined and like I’ve been on a well trodden treadmill like many others. Of course, a lot happened in those 40 years! 40 years!!! yikes, how is that possible.

One area of interest to me that has grown over the years is sports psychology. Wondering now about how I stumbled across this topic, I guess it was an extension of my inquisitive mind hooked on self-improvement. I’m sure this particular journey started with a chance meeting with a business consultant – Nick Carter I think his name was – who took me, a young up-and-coming manager, under his wing and helped to develop my career. Nick opened my eyes to a world of looking for different ways to get things done more efficiently while simultaneously developing yourself.
If only I had met Nick when I was younger, maybe I would have been more than ‘okay’ at all those sports…
