Before embarking on my new blog I did my homework and read a few books about what makes an interesting blog; I’ll let my readers be the judge of how successful I am at that.
According to the ‘good blogging’ guidelines I should offer my readers the chance to get in touch with me through social media channels and email. Hmmm emails fine (marklaker@gmail.com) I tend not to spend too much time on social media. I get caught up in this other world that goes around and around in never ending loops offering something better, or giving me information I never realised I needed. However, it seems that to be a successful blogger I need to leverage the power of social media. I’ll have to create my own filters to view this world through and eventually post on there too.
Apparently – according to the blogging book – I should define my audience, in other words let you know who my blog is intended for. Hmmm another tricky one, my blog is intended for me to write about my interests and experiences for the enjoyment of anyone who cares to read it. I guess it’s going to appeal mostly to people who are interested in self-development, learning, personal productivity, the natural world and similar topics as me.

Another top tip from the ‘good blogging’ guideline is about what makes an ideal blog post – this is where things become complicated and talks about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO); writing as you speak – really!; write about things that will make people come back for more – e.g. click here for free money!! And to stop your readers from getting bored, keep your blogs to around 250 words…
